Community
Our pupils have forged links with a number of shops and businesses in the town of Listowel. Many of the senior class pupils attend work experience within the town. The businesses of Listowel are amazing for opening their doors to our students and giving them a real insight to what it is like to work as part of a team and become more independent. Our students learn skills such as problem solving, childcare, handling money, stocking, customer service and learning to be a valuable part of the community.
As a school we take great advantage of the amenities in the town of Listowel. Our students have picnics in the local park, visits to the banks, post office, the library, the country market and Easons. We also attend mass in the local church, plays in St. Johns theatre and Siamsa Tíre. We are very proud of our involvement in the Listowel community and grateful for a sense of inclusion from the local people.
The Ballybunion Beach is always a favourite of ours weather permitting of course. Our middle and senior classes sometimes go further afield to Limerick and even Dublin for musicals and plays and bring back great stories and memories for all. We also link in with the KDYS and are delighted to work on projects together.
Our senior pupils attend the local Youth Café weekly where they socialise , play music, play pool and generally enjoy themselves in a teenage environment, sometimes meeting students from St Michaels College. Friday is usually a busy day for our senior classes, going for breakfast, lunch or shopping.
Our school has use of the Community Centre for soccer training every Wednesday, the Community Centre has been loyal to us since we moved to Listowel.
We are fortunate to have Ballybunion Leisure Centre near us and classes go swimming every week.
